"Blob Collect" was a collection of side projects housed under one identity. From ramshackle blues and jam sessions to slick production, the album was originally given away free!

It started in March 1986 when I formed "The New Device" out of the remnants of another band called the Bash Street Kids. We recorded a jam session that formed the basis of several tracks on "Blob Collect".

The lineup of the New Device was Kevin Saunders on lead guitar and Guy Tarrant on drums. Over the coming months I collaborated on new material with them individually and more tracks were recorded.

Inspired by the purchase of a new 4 track, I began writing and recording other new songs with old friend John Birtles for another project, the Hairy Penguins.

I became more productive and embarked on more collaborations.

I didn't know it at the time, but these projects would eventually be swallowed up and submerged into the embryonic line-up of Blob Hotel, resulting in the debut album "Blob Collect".
