The oldest song from "Madame Fruitbowl", dating from late '94, it was originally intended for the last Blob Hotel album that never happened, based on a riff I came up with round Nigel's.
Inspired by a mini catalogue that accidently arrived in my letterbox, it described lots of fetish wear... I couldn't believe my eyes!?! By coincidence I'd bought a postcard of a gorgeous french actress wearing what looked like a rubber bra.
|
Using the postcard for inspiration, I adapted the catalogue almost word for word with the new riff for a rough demo. But as with a lot of stuff around this time, I didn't close it out immediately.

"Rubber Bra" had a long gestation period before being finished, recorded in fits and spurts, finally making the running order for the new album when I decided to use every unfinished scrap in early 2000. By then I was using Otto the digital 8 track which allowed me the freedom to come up with fresh ideas for bass and keyboards.
To convey a sleazy salesman out for a fast buck, I recreated the lead vocal from the original demo (an impression based on Jeff Banks from BBC'TV's "The Clothes Show") . Adding operatic backing vocals and percussion, the song was complete.
