"THEME FOR A HOLIDAY" |
|
Premiered 31st December 2005 | "Theme for a Holiday" had a difficult childhood. It became the first track to be specifically recorded for "Madame Fruitbowl", but was soon dropped when it became clear the concept of the song wasn't being executed adequately! It was always intended to see the light of day, so we decided to re-record it as a 10th anniversary idea, and strip it back to it's country roots. We added voilins and keyboards but at the last minute left them off, as it began once again to stray from the original idea. When I first wrote it, I wanted TFAH sounding like "Didn't we have a loverly time, the day we went to Bangor", an old song from the 70's I always hated, and aiming for a folky feel. But as Helen pointed out, I don't use very folky chords, this being a Wilberforce track! Just as in 2004, this was rush-released as an "acoustic mix" in the dying hours of 2005 just so Wilberforce could claim to have produced something in what seemed like a quiet year for the band, but in fact we were busy behind the scenes recording the next album! |
